The word renovation covers very different jobs. One contractor means replacing a few tiles, another means stripping the pool, waterproofing it again and refinishing it completely. This confusion causes real problems when you compare quotations, because two offers with the same name can describe completely different work.

Here we spell out what partial and full renovation include, and how they differ in scope, draining, downtime and warranty, so you know exactly what to ask for in Riyadh or any other Saudi city.

Each type in plain words

Partial renovation is a targeted intervention in a known part of the pool to fix a problem with a clear location. Most of the pool stays as it is.

Full renovation treats the pool as one unit. It is drained completely, old finishes are removed, the concrete is treated, new waterproofing is applied, new tiles go on, and the equipment and plumbing are usually checked or upgraded.

Watch out. Some quotations call full retiling without waterproofing a full renovation. That is a refinish only, and the quotation should say clearly whether waterproofing is included.

Situations that suit partial work

  • Damaged waterline tiles where inspection shows sound waterproofing beneath.
  • A leak around a light niche or return fitting that has been pinpointed, with no damp elsewhere.
  • A hairline crack in the finish that does not reach the concrete and is not widening.
  • An old pump or filter that needs replacing while the pool itself is in good shape.
  • Chipped steps or coping from use, with no problem in the shell.

Situations that call for full renovation

  • A leak that persists after several local repairs, or one whose source was not found.
  • Hollow or falling tiles over large areas, usually meaning the adhesive or waterproofing has failed.
  • Cracks on several walls or the floor, especially if widening or showing rust.
  • An old pool with no renovation for a long time and wear in several parts at once.
  • A wish to change the shape or add steps, a bench or modern lighting, which means opening the whole pool.

If this sounds like your pool, read about the signs that a full renovation is needed before the site visit.

Riyadh factors that affect the choice

  • Summer heat speeds up wear on tiles, grout and exposed waterproofing, especially at the waterline.
  • Dust and sandstorms load filters and pumps, so upgrading old equipment during renovation makes sense.
  • Hard water in some districts leaves scale on tiles and grout, which affects the finish you choose.
  • Soil conditions on some plots call for attention to any movement around the pool before settling for surface work.

Comparing quotations properly

  1. Is the drain complete or partial?
  2. Are all old tiles removed, or is new work laid over or beside them?
  3. Which waterproofing system is used, and does it cover floor and walls?
  4. Is there a fill test after waterproofing and before tiling?
  5. Which equipment is included and which is excluded?
  6. How long is the written warranty and what does it cover?

The cheapest offer is sometimes cheaper because it is smaller in scope, not because it is better value.

Summary

  • Partial work fixes a located problem in a mostly sound pool.
  • Full renovation restores the whole pool from concrete to waterproofing, finish and equipment.
  • Retiling without waterproofing is not a full renovation, whatever the quotation calls it.
  • Repeat problems after repair mean you need a wider intervention.

At YAM Pools our written quotation lists every item included and excluded, and we serve Riyadh and other cities across the Kingdom with a site visit before any commitment.

Frequently asked questions

Is full retiling the same as full renovation?

No. Without removing the old finish, treating the concrete and waterproofing again, it is only a refinish. A full renovation deals with the layers under the tiles too.

Does partial renovation require draining?

It depends on where the problem is. Some waterline repairs only need the level lowered, while floor repairs need a drain.

Why do two quotations for the same job differ so much?

Usually because the scope differs even if the name is the same. Ask for an itemised list in writing and compare on that.

Do you work outside Riyadh?

Yes. YAM Pools serves cities across Saudi Arabia, and the site visit is arranged according to the villa location.
